                                                                         Mount Yoshino

Minamoto no Yoshitsune was the ninth son of his parents, born in 1160 before a great rebellion, in which his father and older brothers lost their lives.  As a result of this incident that would mark Yoshitsune's life, he and his mother decided to flee to the capital to save themselves. Believing that they would have a better place to live. The mother fell into a huge depression after the death of her family, unable to care for Yoshitsune and decided to send her son to a strict convent of monks near Tokyo.

What his mother did not know is that Yoshitsune wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father and brothers. Looking for help to escape he meets a gold merchant who happened to be a friend of his father, so he helps him to escape.

After some years he finds in a nearby region a temple where he is trained to be a great warrior. In one of his practices one of his teachers sees how strong and skilled he is. So, he makes the decision to tell Yoshitsune that he has a half-brother with whom he must fight since he belongs to one of the enemy clans. He is very serious when he says "your half brother is just as strong as you, you will have a few more weeks to prepare and then you will go fight."

This new news shocked Yoshitsen, "I will not fight with my brother, don't ask me to do it" he said in a loud voice and almost shouting. He put the sword aside and went to rest. That night he wrote a letter to his half-brother.

Weeks continued to pass and Yoshitsen had no reply from that letter. The teachers pressured him to continue training because there was not much time left for the big battle. In the morning, one of the women who served the temple came to him and gave him the letter from his half-brother. The letter said that he could join his clan to fight together for the freedom of Tokyo. That same night Yoshitsen decides to escape. The journey took four days to reach his new clan. Upon arrival everyone welcomes him with a big party.

"At last you are here, this is what father always wanted"- said Yoshitsen's brother with a big smile.

"I'm sure it is"- he answered a little confused.

Yoshitse felt at home. Being one of the strongest warriors he was quickly called general and was ready for the war that would take place in Nara prefecture on Mount Yoshino. The day came, everyone was ready for war, then it began. After hours fighting against the former clan of Yoshitse. They decide to go with his brother to the three cherry trees to win the fight.

"We have made it brother"- said Yoshitsune.

"We are a great team and I'm sorry for what I'm going to do"- replied the brother.

Yoshitsune, confused by his brother's words, asks what is going on and sees how his brother regrets what he will do draws his sword and stabs Yoshitsune, watching as his eyes go out he tells him "no one is stronger than me" and walks away, leaving him to die. He got up and tried to call for help but collapsed after two steps. Dying under these cherry trees and is buried among the blossoms that fell at the beginning of autumn.

Final Project

My final project was based on the feelings we might have at the beginning, fear, confusion or the feeling of not knowing if we are going to be able to make friends.  Also, it was based on the feelings we have now, more confidence in speaking and expressing ourselves in English, maybe a little bit of nostalgia at the end of this month full of new feelings and people. People that I may not see again but that will always remain in my heart and memory.  Teacher, thank you for giving me time to get used to speak loudly for the people in class and to grow my self-confidence. I don't want to be sentimental, I just have to say thank you because I learned something new from everyone. <3

My Home

Home In Ecuador, in the center of the province of Zamora Chinchipe, there is a small "cantón" called Zumbi, where my grandparents' farm is located between large green mountains. You had to walk 5 minutes from my uncle's house to get to the farm and in all those minutes you could see the two story, wood colored house. Located on a large plot of land full of plantations and animals, one minute before you arrive you can see Campion, Negra and Kiara, my grandparents' dogs. One of the dogs, Kiara, had four  puppies in total, four were given to good families and when I was 16 I kept the last puppy. My little Max was excited to see his mother.  When we arrived at our grandparents’ home we left our shoes in the laundry and washed our hands. I went upstairs and saw my grandmother cooking "caldo de pollo" and some rice to eat for lunch. My heart fills with happiness quickly. Waiting until we were all at home to eat...

The Glass Castle

Knowing the Past to Understand  the Present Jeannette Walls Glass Castle As The Glass Castle unfolds, Jeannette Walls opens her heart to her readers, telling the story and details of her life. The focus of her memoir, in her early years, was the lack of care her parents showed her. The care that her parents overlooked, marked her life and influenced the personality she has today. Her parents' actions affected Jeannette as a child, even though she believed that her childhood was normal. The little care they took of her made her the strong adult she became. Lack of care-   According to Jeanette's reports of her neglectful childhood experiences, she had no stable place or home to live. In the second portion of her memoir, “The Desert”,  we learn that while her mother was in the next room singing, Jeanette, as a three year old, was cooking for herself. While cooking, she caught on fire, “Then the flames leaped up, reaching my face. I screamed. I smelled the burni...
